Money is tight everywhere, which means that you might not be able to give your teenagers the money that they need for gas and entertainment. With that said, there are plenty of ways for your teenager to make money, some obvious, some not so obvious. Here are five ways to consider when it comes to making money as a teenager:
Start a Neighborhood Lawn Mowing Business
The “teenage lawn mowing business” has been around as long as the suburbs have existed. With that said, if your teenager is looking for a way to make spending money, mowing neighbors lawns is a great thing to consider. The reason for this is simple: most people don’t have the money to spend on expensive lawn mowing services.
If they aren’t willing to spend their weekends doing it themselves, they might be happy to have your teenager do it for them for $10-$20. Heck, if your teenager does three lawns a day during the summertime they could make upwards of $300 a week, which is more than enough for their gas and entertainment budget.
Become a Waiter or a Busboy for Extra Cash
A lot of adults don’t like being a waiter or a busboy at local fast-food style restaurants because, well, the pay isn’t too great. With that said, a $7 per hour rate is typically right up the alley of teenagers who are looking for some extra spending money. Even if it’s only for a couple nights a week, they’ll get the money they need to be self reliant.
Get a Filing Job
Not everyone is going to hire a teenager to do their filing. With that said, though, there are some small companies who will hire teenagers to come in and do basic filing a couple of days. For $10 an hour business owners are happy to get rid of the busy work and pay your son or daughter to do it. An extra bonus is that your teen may get training into a job they may consider doing later in life.
Walk Dogs & Get Paid
A lot of people out there have to leave their dogs indoors all day while they are out at work. Because these owners don’t want their dogs stewing inside ripping up their belongings, they will hire trustworthy teens to take their dogs out on a walk. Your teenager can start with neighbors and hope that word gets around so that more dog owners take notice.
Recycle For Profit
Recycling is an easy way for your teenagers to make money, though it might not be the most glamorous way. Have them set up a system with neighbors where once a week they go around to each one of them and pick up their recycled materials. Once they have collected enough to warrant a trip, take them to the recycling center to have them trade it in. It may not make them a lot of money at first, but once they start getting into it, extra money will be easily made.
