Can the collection agency and the original creditor have seperate items on my credit report for the same debt?

There is a debt I have for a payday advance place and they are listed on my credit report. Also the collection agency the debt was sent to is listed on my credit report. Now I have two different items listed on there for the same exact debt. Is that legal? What should I do? And is it legal for that collection agency to not allow me to pay in full?

Can a collection agency try to collect a debt that is not past due?

The debt was reported to the collection agency as being 60 days past due, which with proof is not correct, the account is current for another week. Now there are incorrect billing amounts. It appears it was inaccurately reported to the collection agency by this other company, is this legal?

Can a collection agency continue to report an unpaid debt after 7 years?

I know that unpaid debt remain on your credit report for 7 years. My question is after the 7 years can if a NEW collection buys the debt during this 7 year period can the new agency still report that same unpaid debt after the 7 years?

For example: if I owe captial one $300 and they sold it to Collection Agency A, Collection Agency A sells it to Collection Agency B which is now the 7 year period but Collection Agency B sells the account to Collection Agency C-can Collection Agency C still report the upaid debt during this 7year period?

How can I find out which collection agency holds my account and their address?

I’m trying to figure out what collection agency holds my account. Is there any way to do that? They called me on the phone once, and I got to see first hand how they will treat ppl to get money as fast as possible. I was advised by a consolidater not to talk to them on the phone at all. The consolidater couldn’t really do much to lower my payments to the collection agency, so he told me to just mail them what I could in payments until I could get the entire amount to them. Only problem is I never got the name or address of the collection agency and I don’t even have the number to them anymore. I want to mail them (so I have paper copies of everything) and ask them to send me something that shows how much I owe and where it all comes from (intrest, etc…) and also to mail payments. Can anyone tell me how to find out which IOWA collection agency would have my old credit card account? Thanks!

Does getting your debt transfered to a collection agency atomatically gives you a bad record?

I can’t pay the whole amount in full because it’s pretty big and im stil a student and the agency won’t accept payments(installments). The agecy said that if i don’t pay, it willgo to my record and stay there for 7 years. My question is, doesn’t having your debt frwarded to a collection agency automatically results to abad record? Because if it does, what’s the use of paying the debt? You ALREADY have a bad credit anyways.

How long does a collection agency have to respond to a request for more information?

In a show of good faith, and hoping they will stop any further action, I have requested verification of the account, payment history, etc. How long do they have to respond? How long can a collection agency attempt to collect on a debt more than 10 years old?

This past summer, a collection agency contacted me in regards to an account with a department store that was paid off in 1993. They told me I still owe on it. I no longer live in the state where the debt was initiated, so which state’s statute of limitations do I use, the state where the debt originated or where I currently live? Telling the agent who calls me that I don’t owe it doesn’t work. They tell me that their client still wants their money. Could this be a scam?

Collection Agency?

Why do businesses turn to collection agencies to handle their collections? Is it becuase they dont have the time to deal with collections themselves? Is it not that big of a deal and there for they can sell the debt to someone else?Or is it because if there are any illegal practices the business can hide behind the fact that the collection agency was the one collecting?

What is good letter to write to collection Agency if they didn’t verify a debt?

I sent a letter to debt collection agency to validate a debt they have on me. I sent the letter certified mail and got a reciept. It has been more than 30 days since they got the letter. Should I send a followup letter, or repor them to the FTC and BBB for putting a debt on my credit report they can’t validate?
