Credit scores are important, more than ever. When you separate or divorce, special care needs to be taken to protect your scores. Duriing these times of chane , it might be wise to shop around.

How you deal with the related credit issues pertaining to a marital separation and divorce is important for both your short and long term financial recovery. Many credit restoration companies thrive when the divorce rates rise. In challengiong financial times, debt management can take on a whole new meaning.

High interests loans can really increase not only the amount of your debt, but it will lenghten the time that you take attempting to dig out of the hole.

. Try the cash and carry method.

. Do not pledge the credit of the other spouse.

Consider taking a financial or accounting class.

The family home is all to often used as a huge ATM machine and couples often max it out during the marriage, leaving little equity to work with during separation and divorce. Necessity is the mother of invention, so be creative in your spending.

For some reason, it often sees like car loan agents have the least sympathy when it comes to working out delinquent payments. Car companies know that you need wheels and they therefore can lean on you when necessary. Stay on top of your car loan payments.

Remeber that tough economic times are generally followed by long term periods of prosperity. Don’t give up hope. Hopefully, you have followed the old parental advice, to “save for a rainy day.”

Bankruptcy filings and increases in divorce rates have some definate relativity in the consumer markets and legal profession. When people divorce, they are often looking for a clean slate, emotionally and financially. These days, it is practically socially acceptable to file bankruptcy, the same appears to be true about divorce.

Despite the changes in bankruptcy laws in the last few years, it is still pretty easy to walk away from many individual and marital obligations.

People are in debt. Living in this world with bad credit can be difficult. It’s hard to repair your credit and it makes life difficult to have bad credit when you are making those large purchases.

Credit repair can be done, but not overnight. You must be patient and keep your spending in check. There are a few things that you can do to repair your damaged credit but you must be patient as you follow these steps.

The next time you order your fancy coffee at the drive through, think about this, How much a month do you spend on just coffee? A typical fancy coffee costs about $3-$4. if you have 4 a week, that’s $12-$16 a week or $48-$64 a month! The key to credit resolution is budget. Cut back on frivolous purchases and put the money towards paying your debt off. It’s hard but necessary.

Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union are the three credit reporting agencies that report to FICO. FICO is who keeps your credit score and reports it to the banks. You should get a credit report from all three agencies. Your bank will give you a free report every year if you ask for one; otherwise you can find an online solution.

You need to contact the creditors that you owe. This is so you can try and negotiate a payment plan. You can haggle with them about interest and monthly payments. Then when you get an agreement, have them send you the agreement in writing.

Now you need to close out and pay your credit card debts. Destroy the cards and start paying them off. The best idea is to close all the accounts you have except your three oldest ones. You see, credit scores are based on the account history as well as other factors. Even if these lines of credit are opened, you don’t need to use them unless it’s an emergency.

You must make all your payments on time and avoid bankruptcy. It’s a good idea to join a credit union as well. They offer a better chance of giving you a consolidation loan if you want to go that route.

as you already know, our economy has gone sour and many families are suffering. Thousands of companies have declared bankruptcy and millions of adults are unemployed. Banks are closing their doors and money is tight for everyone. Financial problems are rampant worldwide. Where do we turn for help when we feel that we are drowning in overwhelming debt?

Even though you may feel you are overpowered by financial difficulties, help is available. As complicated as it may seem at the moment it really is possible to get out of debt. According to credit counselors, your first step to be determined to get out of debt and formulate a credit reduction plan.

To create a plan to get out of debt you must first take an in depth look at your finances. This means you will need to know exactly what you owe and how much interest you are paying on your mortgage, auto loans and credit cards. Start by cataloging all of this information.

Next, list all of the day-to-day living expenses and the financial obligations you incur each month. This means noting all of the monthly payments you owe on credit cards, mortgage (or rent), utilities – every expenditure you incur on a regular basis. Be thorough with this as it is very important. You cannot make a plan for debt reduction without a thorough understanding of your current financial obligations.

After you have accomplished the tasks above you are ready to make an appointment with a licensed credit counseling agency. Enlisting the help of such an agency will help you to follow through with your commitment to get out of debt. The agency will begin by reviewing your list of debts and expenses. It will then make recommendations to you, and it may even work with your creditors to help you reduce both your and your debt.

Getting out of debt is possible. In fact, it is very often easier and faster than people think. The keys are to get good professional help, make a plan, and stick to it. Do that and you can soon be debt free, even in a tough economy.

We have all heard of chapter 7 bankruptcy, although many of us if asked probably could not give a precise answer to what exactly it entails. Every day people make mistakes when filing for bankruptcy that probably could have been avoided if they had better understood the different types of bankruptcy.

Certainly no one wants to become involved in bankruptcy proceedings. Anyone who does will have to have debts that greatly exceed his or her net worth and, in addition, have no visible or viable means of paying back the debts.

There are a number of different forms of bankruptcy such as chapter 11 bankruptcy and the more common chapter 7 bankruptcy. Since chapter 7 bankruptcy is more common for individuals, it is the one we will focus on here.

Chapter 7 bankruptcy explained

When somebody goes through the process of chapter 7 bankruptcy, according to United States of America law they are essentially liquidating all assets (that are not legally exempt from liquidation) so they can pay back their creditors.

If you are a corporation, business and or partnership you will also be able to apply for this chapter like an individual. Chapter 7 bankruptcy is however different for individuals in that they have open to them a special extra clause in the bankruptcy filing framework.

That special clause is known as a “discharge.” What a discharge refers to is the freeing of the individual from certain debts.

How to get started filing chapter 7 bankruptcy

Generally speaking to file a chapter 7 bankruptcy one mast supply the courts with copies of their tax returns, contracts of an executive nature, statements of financial affairs, all proof of liabilities and assets as well as documents to prove one’s current income and necessary expenses.

For the public there are a series of additional items that are necessary. They will include but are not necessarily limited to the following: copies of your reports for credit counseling as well as any payment plan programs, statements of income/employee payments and in the case of being a student, copies of documents stating interest payments on one’s student loans.

The information in this document is very brief and general, if you need to find out more about chapter 7 bankruptcy and others, a good place to start would be with the links in this article and also with the US courts website. If you do file for bankruptcy make sure you get a good lawyer.

Having to file for bankruptcy is a serious business that will affect you and your family for a number of years, why then would you consider embarking on this course of action without a reputable bankruptcy lawyer. The bankruptcy law has gone through many changes, but for the benefit of the bankrupt. As the changes in the bankruptcy law have meant that more preparation is required before it can be filed, it means that a number of people have found themselves struggling with the process but by using a bankruptcy lawyer, this can be made much easier. Despite all this extra paperwork, once it has been completed, the bankruptcy petition can proceed via your bankruptcy lawyer with almost no difference to what it was before the changes.

The US bankruptcy code provides protection via exemptions to people who are filing for bankruptcy so they will be allowed, under normal circumstances, to keep their home and car for instance. Work clothes, tools and other essential items like furniture for example are also excluded as a bankrupt still needs a place to live and a way to travel to work.

In addition, some states have exemptions available that go beyond those provided by the federal statute and a local bankruptcy lawyer will be aware of these differences. The chances are that you do not own very high value items and it is not the purpose of bankruptcy to be a punishment so many things required for live are exempt from creditors.

The unfortunate aspect to this is your credit rating will be affected and on your record for a decade. You see, you’re the majority of your credit score rating is made up of more recent financial activities and not so much about past ones.

There are a number of unscrupulous companies that will wish to give you credit but the rates are usually higher or there may be additional charges to deal with that can easily put you back where you started but your bankruptcy lawyer should be able to tell you more about this. The answer is to only deal with reputable companies and only take on the credit you know you can comfortably live with plus always pay more than the minimum payment required.

In fact if you keep your financial affairs clean, in a matter of a few years, you can find yourself with a re-built credit rating. Buying a house or arranging an unsecured loan after this short period should not cause you any undue problems even though your bankruptcy will be on your record for 10 years.

The credit industry would love for you to believe that only waster’s file for bankruptcy but this attitude just makes ordinary people reluctant to file bankruptcy when they need to and creates an unsympathetic attitude toward those who do file bankruptcy. Of course whilst this attitude is prevalent, the legislators will find ways to make the process harder. However, the vast majority people who file for bankruptcy protection are honest, hard working people who have just fallen on hard times.

There are ways to repair your credit after a bankruptcy. Although these procedures will not help right away, they can be used to help repair your credit over time. Taking the needed steps to eliminate the bankruptcy record from your report or to improve your credit after a bankruptcy can place you on the right road to prepare your credit report and score for the future.

How could you remove a bankruptcy and increase your FICO score?

Any derogatory accounts that were discharged during bankruptcy will show up as either “BK Liq Reo” or “Charge-off.” The bankruptcy will itself appear under the public record section as a Ch. 7 or Ch. 13.

There is really just one way to erase a bankruptcy completely from your credit file and that is to deal with the credit bureaus directly. There is almost always some kind of mistake in the bankruptcy record since it was written by a human.

One of the major possible difficulties you can dispute in a bankruptcy is the dollar amount of each account in question. Many times creditors will round up the account balance number to the nearest dollar for accounting purposes. This can be challenged since the number is technically not correct. In many cases, the bankruptcy is ordered removed.

Often, bankruptcies are easier to remove than other listings on your credit file. This is because bankruptcy files have a plethora of information, so the probability of errors is extremely high as items are often entered by busy or overworked court employees.

Working with a government office is much different from working with private subscribers. Getting the government to cooperate will make it difficult for the credit bureau to respond to your dispute letter within the chosen time, and the government’s bureaucracy can work in your favor.

Remember to send your demand for correction directly to the three major credit bureaus, not to the court that holds the bankruptcy file. The bureaus must correct any inaccuracy within a reasonable period or remove it from your credit record. It is very easy to find some kind of mistake in a bankruptcy file. Use this to your advantage.

A bankruptcy is not the end of the rope for your credit, and often it is much simpler to erase a bankruptcy record then it would be to erase a lot of small diverse debts listed on your credit reports. Look over the bankruptcy records completely, find something incorrect, and file a dispute to have it erased from your report, so you can begin building your credit file again.

You can repair your credit information if you have the know-how and the tenacity. Often, it involves calling your lenders, creditors and collection agencies to barter and negotiate with them. You may have to send them a letter or hassle them every single month until an item is removed, but you can often get lesser items off your report. Things like charge-offs, collections accounts, settlements and late payments can all be negotiated. Sometimes, people hire a credit counselor or debt relief company to manage these negotiations for them. If you have a bankruptcy, foreclosure, lien or judgment against you, then this negative credit information will be on your account for 7-10 years without much you can do. But for the rest, you may want to micromanage a little to see what you can get.

Once you have your credit information, you should focus on improving credit scores. Check out your free credit score reports from Equifax, TransUnion and Experian. Credit reporting is voluntary, so the files may all be slightly different. Once you have this credit info, examine your reports for errors. Roughly one-third of credit reports contain serious errors because the credit bureau doesn’t verify the information your creditors send to them. Therefore, keeping clear credit is your responsibility. Some of the items may come off through a dispute, where you send a letter or a photocopy of your credit report with circles around the mistakes and supporting documents to validate your dispute. As for the legitimate blemishes, they’ll be on your credit for up to seven years and will likely only be fixed through consistent on-time bill payment. You can phase out the use of unneeded credit card accounts but do not close them. Simply stop using them and pay then off. Lastly, a secured credit card can help you re-establish regular on-time payment history again.

To file a dispute about your credit information, you should write a dispute letter to each of the three of the credit bureaus, which are Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. In your letter, include the date, your address and name, phone number and social security number. All you have to put is hat the data is wrong and can they update it and then list the wrong info and explain why its wrong. Attach a marked copy of your credit score report and include all previous communication, account records or statements that can help prove your version of events. By letter is the best way to dispute with Equifax and TransUnion, but Experian only allows online disputes. The credit bureaus then have 30 days to check and repair your credit information. Once they are done, they will send you a letter including what was or was not updated. If you’re not happy with the letter, then you can try once more with different documents or get in touch with the creditor to try and resolve.

Often, checking your credit information is the only way of finding an identity theft if you are don’t use one of the identity theft products such as Life Lock who monitor your credit information for you and look for any unusual activity. If you find strange in your credit information that you have positively no explanation for, a loan, a new TV on credit etc. get in touch with the 3 credit agencies as soon as possible and police for advice. Without any type of protection, checking your credit information is probably the only chance to avoid identity theft running amok. It cannot prevent it but at least it stops it getting worse.

Looking at your credit information can be daunting at first if you’ve had a back track record. The worst thing you can do is put everything off and wait for it to go away. If the creditors are really hounding you and you’re not sure how you’ll have the money to cover it all, then your best bet is going through a credit counselor or debt relief agency. If you have one or two bills that are behind or have paid most of your debts off and are just looking to start anew, then you can handle this. The last 24 months constitute 60% of your credit score, so you can turn things around this year simply by paying your bills regularly, in full and on-time.
