Can a collection agency try to collect a debt that is not past due?

The debt was reported to the collection agency as being 60 days past due, which with proof is not correct, the account is current for another week. Now there are incorrect billing amounts. It appears it was inaccurately reported to the collection agency by this other company, is this legal?

How do you remove a judgement sold to a collection agency?

I had an outstanding debt starting last year in June and well I didn’t know about it, so after 6 months, the company would send over my account to a collection agency and I had it through a collection agency earlier this month, the first week of March. If the debt was to be reported on my credit report, would it have shown up on my credit report now? Is it a good idea to look at it now or should I wait longer? Would it have been on there by now?

How rude can a collection agency be when contacting a debtor’s employer?

They never say they’re a collection agency, but it’s mighty obvious when they accuse me of lying about this employee’s whereabouts/covering for them. Can I hang up on them?
