My Discovered card has offered me a personal loan to pay all of my credit card debt on one bill. They quoted me 12.9 % @ a fixed rate for a $20,000 loan. Well, my credit card rates range from 8.7 to 10.9 (variable). Discover told me that even though the rate is higher I would be able to pay off my debt faster. And any additional money paid would go straight to the principal. And my credit score may increase because I would free up my credit card debt. But I don’t know. Right now I am paying the min on my credit card bills @ $550 a month and the Discover loan would be $540 a month and I would have my debt paid off in 4 years. What do you think ?

There are a few bills that I have which I would like to consolidate to just have one bill. One of those includes a personal loan. Are there any reputable debt consolidation companies out there that may be able to help me with this? If so, please let me know.

We went to apply at a credit union and the first time the lady said that we was approved of the amount that we asked for without collateral and that the next day we could fill out the forms and get our loan. The next day we went, it was a totally different woman and story. She told use that we was not approved at all for the amount of the loan that we have asked for but that they colud offer us another amount in which was not enough to pay off one of the four credit cards that we have. It’s very, very fraustrating because we pay all our bills on time and we do make the mininmum payments on the credit cards which ranges from $50-$100 but that’s not enough for them. We just want to pay off the credit cards and to build our credit back up again. What can we do? We need some help!!!
We don’t own or rent a home and we have a personal loan (that we pay them on time) already with the credit union that we went to to apply for debt consolidation loan.

I have 2 VISAs and a personal loan I want to consolidate into 1 payment. I don’t really want to lose one of the VISAs b/c it is in connection with my bank and tied to my checking. Also the personal loan is from a company that I am in very good standings with. Is there a way I can consolidate without losing the one VISA and reputation w/ the loan company?

Will they actually consolidate all of my credit cards and personal loan or will they just try to get a decrease in the APR? Can anyone help me with this? I was given this as an alternative to filing for bankruptcy and would like some more info from anyone who has been there and done that…thank you.
